【香港♡行程】A Top Notch 3-day Itinerary for Hong Kong

This is an actual itinerary suggestion from us for our family friend from Canada that never been to Hong Kong before.  Welcome To Hong Kong!

Airport Arrival
It is best to take the Airport Express from the airport to Hong Kong central. This is the Dark Green Line on your MTR map included in the back. Your final destination stop is Central (Hong Kong), which is also the last stop on the train.  You will want to purchase either an Octopus Card or a standard airport express ticket. Octopus cards are convenient as they are like a tap debt card you can use for the trains, buses, ferries, and convenient shops. I forget if you are able to get these cards at the airport, if not you can purchase them at any MTR station.

The central terminal is connected to the IFC mall and other train lines. To reach your hotel I would recommend taking a taxi if you have lots of luggage or MTR if you ae traveling light. There is a large taxi stand at IFC mall with plenty of taxis.

Recommended Day Activities:

Day 1 – Mong Kok And Tsim Sha Tsui (TST)
For  day one we recommend visiting what is collectively called Kowloon which is off the island across the harbor. You can either take a ferry across Hong Kong Island to Tsim Sha Tsui or the MTR and we would recommend the hop-on-hop-off tour buses as an easy way to see everything. (→ www.bigbustours.com/en/hong-kong/hong-kong-bus-tours/).

Mong Kok:
Shopping and restaurant central, more local experience, very crowded with lots of action. Would recommend visiting in the afternoon, try some excellent street food for lunch and visit a dessert house after (they are everywhere).
Transport: MTR-Mongkok Station or Mongkok East Station (whenever it's closest)
Tsim Sha Tsui:
This is just across the harbor from the island and is beautiful at night to see the city view and light show. Other things to see include: Clock Tower, Space museum, HK Cultural Centre, HK Art Museum, City Harbor Mall and 1881 Heritage building (Former British Embassy building I believe). I would recommend coming here at night or after Mong Kok and eating at NOBU in the InterContinental hotel. This restaurant has the best view of the harbor, it is worth it just for the scenery.
Transport: *Star Ferry from Central or Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui habour
MTR-Tsim Sha Tsui Station(Red line) Exit E
Day 2 – Central and IFC Mall

For day two we would recommend visiting around Hong Kong Island. First take the train to IFC mall. You can check out the mall either to start or end your day. In the mall there are a few great restaurants, listed below, which would be good to visit for either lunch or dinner. The bus tour recommended for Kowloon also operates one in central, which we believe would be worth doing as well. There is a pick up stop beside the IFC mall, close to the pier.

From IFC we suggest walking to mid-levels which is a nice area where many expats live. From IFC there is an equivalent to plus-15s, and you can walk on these or if you are coming from the MTR central station it is exit J2. There is also an escalator along Cochrane street (like the ones on the bunny ski hill), that is a good way to get around. Streets to check out here include Stanley, Wellington, Hollywood and up to Elgin street which is in the Soho area which is great for restaurants, bars and boutique shops.

It is also worth to see Statue Square (HSBC Hong Kong headquarters, Bank of China Tower, The Court of Final Appeal Building). You will likely see it on the bus tour but it is worth visiting these historic buildings, which were around in colonial times and important during the Japanese occupation WWII. (Many of these buildings, including the famous HSBC lions still have bullet holes from the war). There is also a newly built Hong Kong Observation Wheel, think London Ferris wheel that may be worth seeing although we have never tried.

Good Restaurants in IFC:
-French Window Brasserie and Bar
-Isola Bar & Grill
-Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai and Spicy Chinese Cuisine)
-Cuisine Cuisine -haven’t tried but traditional Dim Sum (Hong Kong cuisine) restaurant

Day 3 – Cheung Chau Island

For the third day we would recommend visiting Cheung Chau island which is traditional a fishing island and is an excellent place to get some seafood. Take a ferry outside IFC mall to the island, I believe pier #5. Ferries come every hour and if you plan to stay late, be mindful of the last ferry to leave the island. The following website lists a few of the things to see on the island.

Depending on how long you spend on the island you will likely have more time to check out IFC or do one of the other activities we have listed below:
